I strive to make
people think when viewing my art. At first glance
I want to shock the viewer. People will be either
surprised or even in some cases slightly offended.
Anyone can make happy pretty art, but to make something
that challenges the status quo and makes people
question their ideals is truly rewarding. I use
a juxtaposition of ideas and images to exact a
response from my viewer; whether it is positive
or negative is up to the individual and how they
interpret the work.
However,
Art that merely shocks or offends with no redeeming
value is strictly sensationalism. It may work
for some but I strive for something greater.
Not that I believe that my simple sketches and
comic pages are going to save the world—I
just want my work elicit open-minded free thinking
in the viewer’s
response.
Living in Worcester,
Massachusetts, for the last 3 years, I have helped
start Sketchjam Studios with other local artists.
I contributed my personal work to the 1st Annual
Sketchjam Studios Presents Anthology in 2005, chronicling
the adventures of my character Goth Clown. I have
taken part in 24 hour comic day for the last two
years and this year our Sketchjam team completed
8 full pages of work for the Comic Jam War competition.
I am a self-proclaimed geek and proud of it. My
comic book collection tops out at around 8,000
books and counting, and I play a pretty mean game
of pool too.
